Bosses at Swansea's Liberty Stadium today announced details of an exciting new sponsorship deal with retail giant Tesco.

The UK's leading supermarket retailer has signed a three-year deal to sponsor the East Stand at the £27million venue in what is Tesco's first foray into mainstream sports in Wales. The announcement comes at an exciting time for sports fans in South-west Wales, with both the Ospreys and the Swans enjoying success on the pitch last season, winning the EDF Energy Cup and the Coca Cola League One Championship respectively.

Under the terms of the new agreement, the East Stand with its capacity of 6,160, will now be known as the Tesco Stand, with the sponsor benefiting from a presence on internal and external signage. It is also anticipated that this sponsorship will be the just the first deal in a long and prosperous relationship between Tesco and the Liberty Stadium and its partners - the Ospreys and Swansea City FC.

Andrew Davies, General Manager, Swansea Stadium Management Company, said:

"This deal is fantastic news for both Liberty Stadium and Tesco, not to mention the Ospreys and Swansea City who have both enjoyed outstanding success over the course of the last twelve months. In just three years since opening its gates for the very first time, the Liberty Stadium has cemented its place amongst the UK's finest new stadia as home to two of the most exciting sports teams in the country, so this partnership with possibly the most identifiable brand in the UK makes perfect sense for all parties.

"It is an exciting time for sports fans in South-west Wales right now. The Swans are about to embark on their first season in the Championship for almost a quarter of a century, whilst the Ospreys, have finally made the breakthrough into the knockout stages of the Heineken Cup for the first time. Their continued success can only see the profile of the Liberty Stadium soaring higher over the coming seasons and we're delighted that Tesco has identified this and agreed to come on board."

Felix Gummer, Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager For Wales, commented:

"We are very excited about the opportunity to sponsor this regional centre of sport. We have many projects around healthy living and getting involved in sport right across Wales. This is an opportunity to invest in sport at the highest level, to inspire everyone who follows both of these iconic teams, whose home is here."

More than 1.5million people have passed through the turnstiles to watch the Ospreys and the Swans during the Liberty Stadium's first three years of operation, whilst the venue has also hosted international and football rugby matches, as well as a concert by rock legends The Who. This summer sees the Liberty Stadium acting as host venue for the IRB Junior World Championships, with a minimum of 10 international rugby fixtures taking place, including the final, before Sir Elton John arrives in Swansea to play in front of a record Liberty Stadium crowd of almost 25,000 on Sunday June 29
