While the semi-finals pitting New Zealand against Wales and England against South Africa will grab the spotlight on Wednesday, the other 12 teams participating in the inaugural IRB Junior World Championship will contest the first of two play-off matches to decide their final positions.

These play-offs will bring together teams according to their placing after the pool stages. That is to say, the four second-placed teams will playoff to determine fifth to eighth rankings; the four third-placed teams will face each other to decide ninth to 12th; and the four fourth-placed teams will do battle to decide 13th to 16th.

The winners and losers of Wednesday's play-offs will be paired off accordingly for their final fixture at the tournament on the weekend to finalise the positions.

Liberty Stadium– the venue for Sunday's final and third place playoff - on Wednesday will host the play-offs between those teams who finished second in the pool stage: Argentina v France (17:00), followed by Samoa v Australia (19:00).

Australia will be without a trio of stars after flanker Ben McCalman, centre Ben Tapuai and scrum half Will Genia - the man of match in their defeat by England -were forced to fly home. Their absence will be covered by existing squad members in Wales.

Sam Latinipulu will start at openside flanker, captain David Pocock swiches to number8 to cover McCalman's absence and Rowan Kellam comes into the centres for Tapuai.
